Project Descriptions
Book Publishing:
We started a project long before July 2010 to work with students, the earthquake victims in Sichuan, China to write a children’s book about their lives before and after the earthquake. We Care Act leaders contacted a publisher, First Person Publishing, and worked out a plan on publishing the book. In July 2010, We Care Act leaders traveled to Sichuan, China and hosted a workshop for the students to write their stories.
We are seeking sponsors to support the writing, illustrating, publishing, and promoting the book. The sponsor or funder will be acknowledged in the book when it is published.
Scholarships for Disaster Relief and Children in Need:
In 2010, we offered 8 scholarships to outstanding students in need in Dujiangyan, Sichuan, China. We would like to continue offering and expand the scholarships to the children in need around the world and to provide educational opportunities for those who deserve them.
Service Scholar Essay Contest:
We would like to offer writing contests for service scholars to share how their services have changed others and their own lives, and how they would like to inspire and engage others to change the world.
Outstanding Leader Scholarships:
When working with team leaders and from our own experience, we found that leadership training is very important for youth to develop skills and we would like to offer the scholarship competition opportunity for our team leaders to gain training in this area, as a reward to their hard work and dedication.
Community Service Grant:
We would like to empower youth to lead community service projects by offering grant opportunities.
Service Awards for Teachers:
Teachers are essential for children’s leadership development and community involvement. We have been and will continue work with teachers and would like to provide awards to teachers who engage and empower their students and provide awards for their class projects.
English Activities:
This program is designed for students who are non-native English speakers either in the US or outside of the country. In the past two years, we have been working with Qingcheng Mountain High School in Sichuan, China, with 2700 students, to improve students’ the English level, and to provide educational materials for them to learn about the outside world. Our first project would be to provide funding for this school to host English related contest, or activities, i.e. clubs, cultural events, etc. After that, we would like to expand to other regions.
Workshops for Children in Need and for Team Leaders:
In July 2010, We Care Act founders hosted an English workshop in Dujiangyan, Sichuan, China to provide training to the students and to exchange ideas and narrow cultural gap. It was a tremendous gain for the students and the founders to learn about each other’s culture. We would like to continue offer similar workshops for children in need and would like to offer workshops for team leaders to gain training, exchange ideas among each others etc.
Annual Program—a Month for Making a Difference:
In April 2010, We Care Act launched its first annual “A Month for Making a Difference” program and called for action from its team leaders and youth and children throughout the global communities. We would like to continue this program.
Gift Care Basket:
We are in the process of launching a “gift care basket” program to provide opportunities to youth through raising funds and presenting a care basket to elderly or children in need in their own neighborhood to show the caring spirit.
